About us

Who are Studio Seventy Five?

We are an architectural design studio based at the Digital Media Centre in Barnsley. We provide architectural design, design consultancy, Principal Designer services and quality monitoring. We work for homeowners, businesses, public bodies, developers and contractors. Every project is led by a director, so you deal with the same experienced person from start to finish.

What sectors do you work in?

Residential, Leisure & Wellbeing, Veterinary, Health + Care, Education and Industrial & Commercial. Our work ranges from small extensions and interior fit-outs to new-build homes, schools, care homes and leisure facilities.

Where do you work?

We’re working on projects across the UK from our studio in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

How do you work with clients?

Together. We spend time early on working through ideas and testing options with you. We give straight talking, Yorkshire advice.

Working with us

How do I get started?

Call us on 0330 520 2675, email hello@studioseventyfive.co.uk or message us on WhatsApp. We usually reply within a day. You do not need drawings or a detailed brief. Tell us what you have in mind and we will talk it through.

What services do you offer?
Do I have to use you for every stage?

No. Take only the services you need or let our turnkey service handle everything from first sketch to completion with one team and one point of contact. Either way, every stage is director led and we are only a phone call away.

Can you help me find a builder or contractor?

Yes. We prepare tender documents, invite quotes and help you compare them on a like-for-like basis. We can then administer the contract and manage the build through to completion.

Planning and compliance

Do you handle planning applications?

Yes. We prepare the drawings and supporting documents, submit the application and deal with the planning officer’s questions until a decision is made. Planning permission can never be guaranteed, but careful research and a well-considered design give you the best chance. For more complex projects, we may suggest bringing in a planning consultant. Homeowners can find more on Permitted Development in our Residential FAQs.

Do you provide building regulations drawings?

Yes. We produce the technical drawings and specifications building control needs, which your builder also prices from and builds to. We coordinate with structural engineers and other consultants so everything fits together.

What is a Principal Designer?

There are two separate roles. Under the CDM Regulations, the Principal Designer plans and coordinates health and safety during design. Under the Building Regulations, the Principal Designer makes sure the design complies and keeps the golden thread of information. Most projects now need both, including many home projects. We can take on either role or both, on their own or alongside our design work.

Fees and timescales

What are your fees?

We price each project individually, based on its size and complexity and the services you need. After the first conversation, we send you a written fee proposal, so you know exactly what is included before you commit.

How long will my project take?

That depends on its scale and the approvals it needs. Planning decisions take around 8 weeks for householder applications and 8 to 13 weeks for most others. We will give you a realistic programme at the start.

For businesses, developers and contractors

Can you carry out a feasibility study?

Yes. We test what a site or building can deliver, with layout options, CGIs and cost advice, so you can make the investment decision with confidence.

Do you work for contractors?

Yes, usually on a Design & Build Project. We produce planning, building control and construction drawings to your programme and we can act as Principal Designer.

Can you work in occupied buildings?

Yes. Much of our work is in live schools, leisure centres, care homes and veterinary practices. Our previous experience also includes working in live healthcare and mental health environments. We phase the work so the building stays open and safe.

What is Quality Monitoring?

An independent review of the drawings and the site at key stages, with short written reports. It suits funders, purchasers of completed buildings and anyone who wants a second pair of eyes on a project they are paying for.
